Nationwide is on your Side

***this post came from an internal blog at Quest (thanks Keenan) and I like it so much that I thought I would put it out to the world***

You probably know that Super Bowl XLI is this Sunday featuring the Indianapolis Colts vs. the Chicago Bears (GO COLTS). Hopefully it will be a great game but I always look forward to the commercials as much as the game. Advertisers bring their ‘A’ game to feature the most expensive commercials of the year. For the last couple of years, companies have been talking about their Super Bowl ads before the big game and even posting them online before the game (this is great for buzz marketing). One the most talked about ads this year has been for Nationwide Insurance, headquartered in Columbus. Their “Life comes at you fast” campaigns have featured MC Hammer and Fabio in the past; the newest commercial is staring K-Fed (Kevin Federline – the soon to be ex-Mr. Brittany Spears). The ad shows K-Fed in a rap video and then it flashes to him working in a fast food restaurant. I think it is pretty funny but the National Restaurant Association says the commercial “would give the impression that working in a restaurant is demeaning and unpleasant.” I don’t agree with their assessment. If you are making (or married to someone making) millions of dollars and instantly find yourself working at a any “normal” job that quickly it would be funny. They could have shown K-Fed working in marketing at a software company writing a post for blog, but I don’t think the audience would understand what was going on in the 30 second spot.

I bet Nationwide is loving this…they are getting tons of free exposure from the restaurant association asking them to remove the commerical.

Check out the commercial at and let me know what you think.
